From a file or an idea to a finished part

Custom 3D printing in Sofia and across Bulgaria

3DBGPRINT turns a ready-made file, sketch, photograph or existing part into a prototype, functional component, scale model or small production run. Send us your STL, STEP or OBJ file and tell us how the part will be used. We will review the project and recommend a suitable manufacturing process.

An accurate quote depends on the geometry, dimensions, material, intended use, quantity and required finishing.

01 · You send: the file, photographs, dimensions and intended function.

02 · We review: the geometry, process options and limitations.

03 · We agree: the proposed solution, quote and next step.

What does a 3D printing service involve?

3D printing builds a physical part layer by layer from a digital model. It can produce complex shapes without dedicated moulds and is often a practical option for one-off parts, prototypes, customised components and small production runs. The result depends on more than the printer: model preparation, build orientation, technology, material and the requirements for the finished part all matter.

No single technology suits every project. A model used to check a shape has different requirements from a part that must fit an assembly, carry a load, withstand heat, support a presentation or serve as a step towards production. We therefore start with the part’s function.

When is 3D printing a suitable choice?

Prototypes and design checks

Check shape, dimensions, assembly fit and access to components before committing to a more expensive manufacturing stage.

Functional and replacement parts

For applications where a suitable material and process can meet the demands of the load and operating environment.

One-off parts and small production runs

When tooling for a larger production run is not yet justified, or when each part needs to be different.

When another process may be more suitable: very large quantities, simple geometries or requirements better met by machining, casting or another manufacturing method. We will tell you if direct 3D printing is not a sensible option for your project.

What should you send for a review and quote?

  • File: STL or OBJ for a prepared mesh; STEP for CAD geometry, if available.
  • Dimensions: overall dimensions and any critical measurements, particularly for parts that fit into an assembly.
  • Application: visual model, testing, assembly, mechanical load, temperature, outdoor exposure or another important function.
  • Quantity: a single part, several design variants or a small production run.
  • Finish: requirements for colour, surface finish, painting, assembly or other post-processing.

If you do not have a 3D model, send photographs, a sketch and dimensions. Depending on the project, the first step may be 3D modelling, 3D scanning, or a combination of the two.

How do we choose the right technology?

ProcessTypical applicationsWhat we review
FDM/FFFPrototypes, enclosures, jigs and parts where visible layers are acceptable.Build orientation, strength in different directions, wall thickness and support requirements.
LCD/SLASmall detailed models, visual prototypes and fine features.Brittleness, post-processing, surface finish and operating environment.
SLS printingComplex geometries and functional polyamide parts, including features that are difficult to support conventionally.Loads, assembly fit, minimum feature sizes and quantity.
PolyJetDetailed visual prototypes where surface finish and presentation are priorities.Material requirements, geometry and the purpose of the prototype.
Metal 3D printingEngineered metal parts where the geometry and application justify the process.Material, loads, accuracy, supports and post-processing.

This table is a guide. We select the process after reviewing the file and the requirements for the finished part.

From your enquiry to a finished part

  1. We receive your file or brief. We establish the intended function, quantity and important constraints.
  2. We review the geometry. We look for issues that could affect printing, assembly or strength.
  3. We recommend a process. We select the technology, material and build orientation for the task.
  4. We confirm the quote. Price and lead time are agreed once the scope is clear.
  5. We manufacture and check the part. After printing, we complete the agreed post-processing and prepare the part for collection or delivery.

How is the price of 3D printing calculated?

A photograph or a single dimension is not enough for a reliable price. The quote depends on volume and geometry, technology, material, machine time, quantity, file preparation, supports and post-processing. The quickest way to get a useful estimate is to send the file and explain how the part will be used.

A real project: from a damaged component to a manufacturing solution

To reproduce an exhaust adapter for a VW Beetle, the existing component was first 3D scanned and its geometry reconstructed as a CAD model. After assessing temperature, vibration and loads, the final part was cast in grey iron rather than directly 3D printed.

The project illustrates an important principle: the aim is to choose the digital and manufacturing processes that produce a working part.

Frequently asked questions

Which file format should I send for a quote?

STL and OBJ describe a model’s surface and are commonly used for printing. STEP preserves CAD geometry and is more useful when engineering changes are needed. Send the file you have; we will clarify any further requirements.

Can I get a quote without a finished 3D model?

Yes, provided you send enough information: photographs, a sketch, dimensions, an existing part and an explanation of its function. We first need to assess any modelling or scanning work required.

Which technology is best for my part?

That depends on geometry, loads, operating conditions, surface finish, quantity and budget. Choosing a technology solely from a photograph or because it is popular can lead to an unsuitable result.

How long does production take?

Lead time depends on file preparation, technology, material, quantity, machine availability and post-processing. We confirm a specific lead time after reviewing the project.

Do you only work with customers in Sofia?

We accept enquiries from across Bulgaria. File submission and the initial technical discussion can take place remotely. Collection or delivery is agreed for each order.

Can the printed part be finished further?

The options depend on the technology, material and geometry. Mention any sanding, painting, assembly or specific surface requirements in your initial enquiry.
