Thermoforming

What is it Thermoforming?

  • Thermoforming is a manufacturing process where a plastic sheet is heated to a pliable forming temperature, formed to a specific shape in a mold, and trimmed to create a usable product. The sheet, or “film” when referring to thinner gauges and certain material types, is heated in an oven to a high-enough temperature that permits it to be stretched into or onto a mold and cooled to a finished shape. Its simplified version is vacuum forming.
  • In its simplest form, a small tabletop or lab size machine can be used to heat small cut sections of plastic sheet and stretch it over a mold using vacuum. This method is often used for sample and prototype parts. In complex and high-volume applications, very large production machines are utilized to heat and form the plastic sheet and trim the formed parts from the sheet in a continuous high-speed process and can produce many thousands of finished parts per hour depending on the machine and mold size and the size of the parts being formed.

PET (polyethylene terephthalate) – This material is a commonly used food packaging. It is PET, milky white or light yellow, highly crystalline polymer, the surface is smooth and shiny. In a wide temperature range with excellent physical and mechanical properties, long-term use temperature up to 120 ℃, excellent electrical insulation, even at high temperatures. Usually by strengthening, filling, mixing and other methods to improve its workability and physical properties to improve the effect of fiberglass significantly improve the resin resistance, heat resistance, chemical resistance, electrical properties, electrical properties and snow resistance!

    Advantage of PET

You have good mechanical properties, the impact strength is 3 to 5 times greater than other films, folding well.
High transparency, can block UV light, good gloss.
Non-toxic, tasteless, healthy and safe, can be used directly in food packaging.
It has excellent high and low temperature characteristics, long-term use in the temperature range of 120 ℃, short-term use can withstand 150 ℃ high temperature, resistant to -70 ℃ low temperature, and high and low temperature mechanical properties.
The permeability of gases and water vapor is low, both excellent gas barrier and water, oil and odor.

    Polystyrene

Polystyrene (or polystyrene) is a polymer made from the monomer styrene (styrene), a liquid hydrocarbon produced industrially from petroleum. At room temperature, polystyrene is a rigid thermoplastic with an amorphous structure, but at higher temperatures it can be melted and solidified again. Styrene is an aromatic monomer and polystyrene is an aromatic polymer.

    Properties

Pure rigid polystyrene is a colorless flexible plastic with low deformability that can be cast into shapes with fine details. Polystyrene can be transparent or colored in different colors. It is cheap and is used for the production of children’s constructors, plastic cutlery and many other items for which relatively rigid cheap plastic with the possibility of coloring in different colors is suitable. Sheet polystyrene can be molded into inexpensive cups, plates, boxes and other disposable items, especially when strength, durability and heat resistance are less important.

    EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate Copolymer)

EVA is a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate. It has a wide range of applications and is suitable for making elastomers
materials due to its flexibility, as well as due to the fact that it can be processed in combination with other thermoplastic polymers.

    Properties

It has good qualities in terms of gloss, low temperature resistance, waterproof properties and resistance to UV radiation and more.
These products are designed for repeated contact with all types of food under different operating conditions (weather, temperature).

Areas of application of EVA. 1 、Widely used in the field of foam shoes, functional foil for canopies, matrices for packaging, hot melt adhesive, wire and cable, as well as toys and more.
