LUME PLA+ – 1.75 mm filament for FDM/FFF 3D printers

14.80 €

LUME PLA+ is a 1.75 ±0.02 mm filament for FDM/FFF 3D printers, supplied as 1,000 g net on a cardboard spool. Recommended nozzle temperatures of 220–240°C and build plate temperatures of 55–65°C provide a starting point for calibration. Vacuum packaging includes desiccant.

Description

Key features

  • 1.75 ±0.02 mm diameter for controlled feeding in compatible FDM/FFF systems.
  • 1,000 g net filament on a cardboard spool.
  • Recommended nozzle temperature: 220–240°C; build plate: 55–65°C.
  • Recommended cooling: 90–100%. An enclosure and hardened nozzle are not required according to the technical data sheet.
  • Vacuum packaging with desiccant protects the filament before opening.

What is LUME PLA+, and who is it for?

LUME PLA+ is a polylactic-acid-based filament for FDM/FFF 3D printing. It is intended for prototypes, visual models, housings, decorative objects, educational projects and short production runs. Its 1.75 mm diameter suits printers with a matching feed system, while the specified temperature ranges provide a starting point for creating a printing profile.

The ±0.02 mm diameter tolerance limits variations that can affect how much filament passes through the nozzle. It supports consistent everyday feeding, but is not a guarantee of finished-part accuracy. Results also depend on printer mechanics, extrusion calibration, temperature, cooling, model geometry and slicer settings.

The manufacturer lists prototypes, visual components, housings, functional models and short runs as key uses. Applications involving sustained high temperatures, weather exposure, aggressive chemicals or regulatory requirements need prior validation.

Material and printing workflow

The safety data sheet describes a polylactic-acid-based polymer with colourants. The technical data sheet identifies renewable raw materials and degradation under specific conditions. This does not establish suitability for home composting; a specific compostability standard or certification is not stated.

Start within 220–240°C at the nozzle and 55–65°C at the build plate. Calibrate for your printer: differences in sensors, hotend construction, nozzle, feeding and cooling can shift the optimum within that range. The manufacturer recommends 90–100% fan speed. For the first layers, also follow your build surface manufacturer’s guidance.

  1. Check that the printer uses 1.75 mm filament and that its holder or automatic feeding system accepts a spool 196 mm in diameter, with a 52 mm centre hole and 68 mm width.
  2. Check the spool condition, free unwinding and routing through the guides.
  3. Clean the build surface and start from a PLA profile within LUME PLA+’s specified temperatures.
  4. Run a short temperature test and inspect the first layer, bridges, overhangs, stringing and layer adhesion.
  5. Calibrate flow and, if needed, retraction. Save a separate profile for the printer and colour.

No verified maximum printing speed is specified for the series. Choose speed according to hotend capacity, volumetric flow, geometry and the required quality. Record temperature, flow, retraction, cooling and first-layer settings to make the process repeatable.

Compatibility and spool design

LUME PLA+ requires an FDM/FFF printer with a 1.75 mm feed system, a nozzle capable of 220–240°C and a heated build plate operating at 55–65°C. The technical data sheet does not require an enclosure or hardened nozzle, so open desktop systems can be used when their own operating requirements are met.

The cardboard spool measures 196 mm outside diameter, 52 mm centre hole and 68 mm width. The manufacturer’s catalogue specifies dimensional compatibility with Bambu Lab AMS and AMS Lite, Creality CFS, Anycubic ACE and Prusa systems. Actual feeding also depends on the cardboard edges, support mechanism and clearances. Follow the feeding-system manufacturer’s guidance and measure before selecting an adapter ring.

The filament has no proprietary file format or separate CAD requirement. STL, 3MF and OBJ files are processed by your slicer and printer. If a verified material profile is unavailable, use a generic PLA profile and calibrate it within the technical data sheet’s ranges.

Check the physical dimensions of any holder, feeder or dry box. A suitable filament dryer must maintain 55°C without deforming the cardboard spool.

Application examples

  • Iterative prototypes: evaluate shape, assembly and proportions before selecting a more specialised material. A saved profile reduces repeated setup.
  • Visual and presentation models: different colours can distinguish functions or components without painting every prototype.
  • Housings and organisers: boxes, dividers, mounts and components for conditions that have been validated for the material.
  • Architectural and educational models: standard and neutral colours help separate model areas; an enclosure is not mandatory, but suitable ventilation is still needed.
  • Lighting and decorative objects: the product images show ribbed lampshades in several colours. With Transparent filament, light transmission depends on wall thickness, extrusion direction, infill and the light source; optical clarity is not guaranteed.
  • Short production runs: controlled diameter and defined starting temperatures support a repeatable profile. Record batch, colour, calibration and the initial test result.

Storage, limitations and safe use

After opening, keep the filament in a dry, sealed environment. When needed, the manufacturer recommends drying for at least 4 hours at 55°C in a dedicated filament dryer. Inconsistent feeding, popping at the nozzle, bubbles, rough surfaces or increased stringing may indicate moisture, but can have other causes. Check temperature and retraction after drying.

For difficult build surfaces, first clean according to the surface manufacturer’s instructions and check bed levelling. Work within 55–65°C and adjust first-layer contact without excessively reducing nozzle clearance. There is no single adhesive suitable for every build surface.

Keep the cardboard spool dry and its edges undamaged. In roller-based feeders, check for smooth movement and shedding particles. Rewinding without controlled tension can loosen the winding and cause crossed filament.

The safety data sheet does not classify LUME PLA+ as a hazardous mixture under CLP. Nevertheless, ventilate the work area and avoid contact with the heated nozzle or molten polymer. If molten material contacts skin, follow the SDS instructions and seek medical attention. Do not dispose of waste filament into drains or surface water.
